The AirSelfie Is Both a Drone and Smartphone Cover
Anywhere, anytime, take out the drone from your smartphone cover and quickly snap an aerial selfie of your favorite moment. This is the concept behind AirSelfie, the first and only flying camera integrated into your mobile phone cover. People love taking photos and sharing them online on social media such as Facebook and Instagram, that’s a fact.
AirSelfie Holdings Ltd London realized this new trend in “selfie” technology and has decided to take on the challenge to innovate things further. Forget selfie sticks, AirSelfie is here. After taking out the drone from its cover, connect it to your smartphone via the free app (available for Android and iOS) and start flying it. AirSelfie comes with a built-in 5MP camera, a 4GB Micro-SD card (where the photos are automatically saved on) and a 7.4V 240mAh battery.
The drone is made of aluminum with anodized finishing; it has four brushless motors and a Gyro/Barometer/Geomagnetic sensor and 2.4Ghz Wifi. AirSelfie is very light (52g) and very easy to carry, either in your pocket or a backpack, since it’s only 9.45 x 6.73 x 1 cm.
This very portable flying camera drone also features an Altitude Sensor and three flight modes:
- Selfie Mode (use two directional buttons to pilot the AirSelfie)
- Selfie Motion Control Mode (control the drone in real time through the app installed on your smartphone)
- Flying Mode (the smartphone is held horizontally like a classic controller)
Thanks to its hovering function the drone will stay still while you focus on your photo. The drone will easily take off and land without any hassle; you can even throw it in the air and it will start flying on its own. It can even land on your hand when everything’s done. The phone case (shown below) is also a power bank that will charge AirSelfie’s battery.
AirSelfie is currently one of the most anticipated products on Kickstarter. In fact, the company has raised over €442,000 from the original €45,000 goal. Once it is released in early 2017, people will be able to finally drop their selfie sticks and embrace the power of drone technology when it comes to taking selfies. However, keep in mind that the phone case is only compatible with the Samsung S7 Edge, iPhone 6 and iPhone 7. Other smartphones are currently not supported.
What do you think of this small and portable 5MP camera drone? Do you think its portability and features will justify the price (planned to be over 300€ for the full package)?
